The origins of the climate education project…
Antarctic Sailing Expedition
ReQuest2021 is an Antarctica project run by Kent Scouts (although I am also a Guide!).
In December 2021 our team of ten will be sailing the Bark Europa Tall Ship from South America to Port Lockroy in Antarctica. The ReQuest2021 expedition commemorates 100 years since two Scouts (James Marr & Norman Mooney) sailed on Shackleton’s final ‘Quest’ Expedition.

Why Climate Change?
In order to offset our team’s carbon footprint from the journey, I am running a personal project of climate change education . This includes writing a the blog and creating a ‘stop climate change’ badge pack and the Climate Quest website.

Project Objectives
- Flying a Scout flag at Port Lockroy
- Unveiling an expedition plaque dedicated to Marr & Mooney at Gilwell Park and Port Lockroy
- Involving younger sections in educational Antarctic activities
- Undertaking a personal research project
Our Patrons
- Honourable Alexandra Shackleton- Ernest Shackleton’s granddaughter
- James Ketchell- has undertaken the ‘Ultimate Triathlon’; rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, climbing Mount Everest and cycling 18,000 miles around the world
- Felicity Aston MBE- the first woman to ski solo across Antarctica
Fundraising
With a team target of £110,000 and a personal target of £5,0000 fundraising will be no easy task!
